I want to thank everyone who attended the NECKO meeting about the Community Garden on April 15th, I am really excited that this is starting to come together. For those of you who missed the meeting, we discussed some options for starting a community vegetable garden in the NECKO neighborhood.
The site we are looking at is located behind Perry St. between the alleyway and the parking lot for the county morgue. The property is managed by OSU and for permission to use this area for a community vegetable garden we will need to put together a site plan and get it approved by OSU. I asked everyone to come up with some ideas on how we would like this project to progress, and to just start thinking of some cool ideas on how to pull it all together.
Some major hurdles to clear include water sources, compost, funding, membership options, volunteer management, a name for the garden, what to do with any produce, and things we'll need such as tools, seeds, etc. There are quite a few resources available to us, especially here in Columbus, so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions I encourage and welcome you to send me an email @ or call my cell phone @ .
The next meeting will be this Thursday, April 24th at 7pm, at Creative Living on the corner of Perry St and 8th Ave.
See you Thursday!
