          Thanksgiving Day Holiday Will Affect Refuse Collection

                                Service Schedule In Columbus

 

City trash service in Columbus will not be provided on Thursday, November 22, 2012, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day Holiday.  Observance of the holiday will prompt changes in the collection schedule for City regular trash in Columbus as noted below. 

 

For residents assigned a collection color:

·         Collection of trash in color-coded collection areas will rotate forward one day, the week of  the Thanksgiving Day Holiday as follows:

§  Thursday, November 22:        No Collection

§  Friday, November 23:             Gray

§  Monday, November 26:          Navy

§  Tuesday, November 27:         Pink

§  Wednesday, November 28:    Ruby

§  Thursday, November 29:        Gold

 

The color-coded schedule will rotate again on Christmas Day, December 25.

 

Zone-Area Collection Schedule

·         Customers who live in zone-schedule areas have a two-day collection window

·         Customers with dumpsters or other non-wheeled collection containers receive collection within their two-day window throughout the year

·         Zone customers with a wheeled regular trash container and a Thursday/Friday two-day window for pickup will receive their Thanksgiving Day Holiday week collection on the second day of their window

 

Curbside Yard Waste and Subscription Recycling Collection

·         Collection of curbside yard waste and subscription recycling that falls on or after Thanksgiving Day will be delayed one day the week of the holiday, with Friday's collection occurring on Saturday

 

City of Columbus New Residential Recycling Program

·         Bi-weekly collection of recycling in areas currently included in the new residential recycling program will not be affected by the Thanksgiving Day holiday.  Residential yard waste collection in areas included in the new residential recycling program will not be affected by the Thanksgiving Day holiday. These areas include:

§  Far East Side

§  Far Northwest and Far North sides north of S.R. 161 between Sawmill Road on the west and Alum Creek and Westerville Road on the east

§  Franklinton

§  Hilltop

§  Near East Side (south of East Broad Street only.  Collection service on the Near East Side north of East Broad Street will begin December 6.)

§  Parts of the Northwest Side

§  South Side

§  Southeast Side

§  Southwest side

§  Westland and other Far Westside areas

§  Neighborhoods around Port Columbus International Airport east of Stelzer Road, north of East 5th Avenue and south of I-270

§  In only the above areas where the collection of recyclables will be collected under the new residential recycling program, residents should place their 64-gallon blue recycling cart at the same location that their regular trash is collected

­   Note:  Yard waste in the above areas will be collected on alternate weeks

·         Bi-weekly collection of recyclables in the following areas will begin Thursday, December 6:

§  Beechwold

§  Clintonville

§  Harrison West

§  Italian Village

§  Milo-Grogan west of I-71

§  Northwest side south of Bethel Road, east of Sawmill Road and east of the Columbus-Upper Arlington boundary

§  Old North Columbus

§  Short North

§  University area

§  Victorian Village

§  Weinland Park

·         The City's new residential recycling program will be implemented citywide by February 1, 2013

 

Columbus residents can also dispose of their yard waste at any one of nine free yard-waste drop-off locations (please call ahead for hours of operation):

·         Com-Til, the City's compost facility:  7000 Jackson Pike, Columbus (614) 645-3152

·         Kurtz Bros. and Mulch Manufacturing Inc.:  Residents may be asked to show proof that they are a Columbus or Franklin County resident.
